Ponta Morrungulo, situated in close proximity to the Green Tinkerbird site in Inhambane Province, is a long-established holiday resort (originally started in the late 1960s). It is located in a prime setting on a stunning stretch of unspoiled coastline. It has a safe swimming beach. Set within a grove of coconut trees it provides well shaded campsites and chalet facilities. Campers have the use of clean, tiled ablution facilities with gas geyser showers and flushing toilets. Birding in and around the property is fairly good and representative of coastal dune forest.

The “Ponta Morrungulo” Restaurant/bar serves lunches as well as dinners. Meals consist mostly of fresh local seafood and Mozambican dishes. Meals are prepared fresh daily. During busy times it would be advisable to book for the restaurant before 16h00. No orders after 20h30. The restaurant is closed on Mondays during the quiet season. There is a salt-water swimming pool at the restaurant.  Limited ice is available in peak season.  DSTV is available for main sporting features

Firewood, charcoal and fresh bread rolls are available just outside the camp.  Occasionally, you can also buy fish, prawns, vegetables and fruit from the locals. A supermarket containing a general range of supplies such as tea, sugar, flour, spaghetti, margarine, matches, tinned goods and long life milk is situated in nearby Massinga. A limited amount of fresh fruit and vegetables is available from the market. Canned beers, cokes, locally made rum, brandy, whisky, vodka and bottled water also available. Perishables such as cheese and meat are NOT readily available, except in Maxixe, 80 km away and can be expensive.

Route: Johannesburg – Nelspruit – Komatipoort Border Post cross over into Mozambique .

Only one main road to follow – the  EN1 - before the main city of Maputo take the turn off  to the left showing the Xai Xai sign. Pass Xai Xai and Zandamela, Zavora following the EN1 north. The road splits at Lindela - carry on LEFT to Maxixe. Pass Maxixe and carry on for c. 70 kms to the town of Massinga. 7km past Massinga look out for the Morrungulo Resort sign on the right. Leave the tar road and turn onto the dirt road (23º15’26.54″S 35º22’18.30″E). Carry on right to the end 13 kms in total (heading towards the sea).  4×4 vehicles are recommended but not essential. The only time a sedan may have a problem is in times of excessive rains when the 13 km clay road becomes sticky. The journey should take at least 8-9 hours from Komatipoort. The highway from Maputo to the turn off is in good condition but enough time should be budgeted for to reach the lodge in daylight hours.
